Retreating
to Advance is an annual retreat day for leaders and their teams. Since
January 2002 this event has been held in the first or second week
of the New Year. We are extremely committed to encouraging leaders
to reflect on the challenges they face in their role and offering
some solutions by making available leading practitioners and theologians
available as speakers and workshop leaders throughout the day.
The aim of Retreating to Advance is to provide an opportunity for
leaders to take time-out for personal development, spiritual refreshing
and growth.
Objectives

| 1. |
To
encourage leaders to assess their need for personal development
and growth. |
| 2. |
To
resource leaders with essential tools that may enhance their
work and ministry. |
| 3. |
Promote
theological education as an essential component of Christian
leadership. |
| 4. |
To
provide opportunities for leaders to network with each other
and to discover the commonality and resources they can offer
each other. |
| 5. |
To
promote the work of ACEA and London Bible College in the support
and development of leaders. |
This event is important because there is
often the expectation that leaders must be all things to all
men and women. Consequently, they often live their lives as
more than mere mortals on/in whom the Spirit of God rests.
Finding the balance between work, family and play is often impossible.
Our immediate concern is for leaders within Black Majority Churches
(BMCs) who thrive on an activist mentality. In many instances, ministry
is juggled with a full time job. Our hope is that at the end of the
days encounter leaders will be more attuned to the need for
refreshing their own spiritual lives.
Retreating to Advance is co-ordinated under the auspices of the African
and Caribbean Evangelical Alliance (ACEA) and London Bible College
(LBC). Committed to training and supporting leaders, our aspiration
is to take the delegates on a spiritual journey, which encourages
reflection, provides opportunities to ask critical questions about
the future and offer some resources to help them in the year ahead.
