Criminal Records Check

ACEA assists individuals, churches and organisations to carry out Criminal Records Checks.

Criminal Records Checks is an excellent tool for churches and Christian organisations, which ensure that those who work with children, young people and vulnerable adults are suitable to do so. Criminal Records Checks are carried out by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), an executive agency of the Home Office.

The Disclosure Scheme offers Churches and organisations a means of checking the background of those who want to work or volunteer to ensure that they do not have a history that would make them unsuitable for posts they are trying to fill. Disclosures provides details of a person's criminal record including convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings held on the Police National Computer (PNC). If the position involves working with children, Disclosures will also contain details from lists held by the Department of Health (DoH) and the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) of those considered unsuitable for this type of work.

Carrying out these checks allows churches not only to protect their children, young people and vulnerable adults from predatory and unsuitable people, but also the charity or organisation and their directors and trustees from the charge of gross negligence.
