Policies
Policies are absolutely important for the effective running and development of organisations. They offer clarification of rules, procedures, expectations, behaviour and commitment which the organisation sets for its staff, volunteers, members and all those who use its services. Consequently, it promotes fairness by ensuring that everyone is operating under the same set of assumptions.

Policies also protect the organisations from the need to make the rules as they go along or the accusation of ‘one rule for Peter and another for Paul’. Further, they generate confidence, assurance and provide legal protection for staff and trustees as they provide the parameters of their remit. They also demonstrate that an organisation is prudent, not callous and looks after the interest of all those who are likely to be affected if appropriate policies are not in place.

ACEA therefore recommends that its members have at least the following policies
in place:
Child Protection
Health and Safety
Finance Policy
Recruitment Policy
Employment Policy
Equal opportunities

Organisations should also consider implementing other policies in line with their requirements.

ACEA is happy to assist its members in drafting any of the above policies. In so doing we will be acting in good faith and this should not preclude any other professional or legal advice.
