Social
commentator Ronald Nathan took over the reins in 1993.
Previously, he had worked on the ACEA/EA social responsibility
initiative, Community Initiative Unit, which provided
support and encouragement to the then called Black-led
churches. He assisted them in developing programmes to
meet the needs of their members and communities.

Where Joel brought an ecclesiastical and reconciling role
to the organisation, Ron brought to ACEA a passion for
the Black community. He challenged the church to be relevant
and responsive to their communities and to stand in solidarity
with their experiences. Social Responsibility and engaging
with the institutions and structures of society, including
the media, became a central part of the work of the ACEA.

Ron was committed to the ideal of developing an appropriate
Black response to the very many Black community issues.
As a result ACEA embraced and worked with a far wider
range of issues, groups and organisations than it had
ever done before. This was expressed in the work of the
Commissions which were set up under Ron and then developed
by Mark Sturge, drawing Christians from various denominational
backgrounds to work together in the areas of common concern.

In 1996 Philip Mohabir stepped down as Chairman and Became
ACEAs first president. He was succeeded by Nigerian
born, Rev Dr. Paul Jinadu, General Overseer of New Covenant
Church. |
