Mark Sturge
became ACEAs fourth General Director in August 1996.
The cord which was binding the vision of ACEA together
was becoming stronger and more established. Mark brought
to ACEA the need to be strong organisationally, and seeing
his role as holding together the essence and strengths
of his two predecessors. A key feature of his work is
to present the Black Majority Churches (BMCs) to the wider
church and society as a whole. This was depicted in the
Millennium Convention, Faith in the Future, in July 2000.
This event encouraged the church to look at its future
role and responsibility together and attracted the Prime
Minister, Tony Blair, and the then leader of the Opposition,
William Hague MP. For Mark, the BMCs is to be seen as
Gods gift to the nation, the wider church and society.
He is therefore committed to serving the church to ensure
that they are developed and empowered to both meet the
needs of their communities and to be a critical voice
of reason and Gods conscience as well.
Under his leadership ACEAs primary goal to promote
unity, reconciliation and co-operation within the community
and between Black and White Christians was extended to
address the social needs of the Black Diaspora. |
