History

The
Ecclesiastical Years |
 |
Joel began
his role in a part-time capacity. He worked strategically
to introduce the work of the Alliance to the newly formed
African churches. He was responsible for initiating the
ACCORD Celebrations, which brought Black and white leaders
together and attracted over 4,000 attendees in its first
year. His gifting in promoting unity was recognised by
the Evangelical Alliance and a new post of UK Director
of development was created for him in 1993. In 1997Joel
was invited to serve as the General Director of the Evangelical
Alliance UK.
During this period the key areas of ACEAs work was
one of bridge building, building bridges of trust, friendships
and engagement between the fragmented black-led churches.
ACEA was keen to create understanding and tackle the issues
which promoted prejudice within the church. The watchwords
were, "What unites us is greater that what divided
us".
Joel believes that the vision is yet to be fulfilled but
certainly in "on route". For the future, he
would like to see Black faith in Britain finding "an
effective communication with the rest of the society so
that Black church leaders not only see themselves as people
who are here to survive in some way but as ambassadors
contributing to the wider setting". |
