  About Black Majority Churches

Black Majority Churches (BMCs) are the fastest growing and are among the largest churches in the UK. The growth and development of these churches is nothing short of miraculous. In 1998 it was estimated that there were over 3000 congregations and it is estimated that a new church is established every week.

The England Church Attendance Survey (The Tide is Running Out, Christian Research, 1998) suggests that 51 per cent of all church attendance in London are either Black or Asian. Evidently, these churches are made up primarily of members from the African and Caribbean diaspora. More significantly, there is an explosion of Black British young people who are committed to attending these churches. Equally, they are often the hub of their local communities and are the most cohesive representation of the African and Caribbean Communities in the UK.
